Audit Process

What does it mean to be an E&S (Excess & Surplus) nonadmitted carrier?

Blitz contracts with Lowry & Associates, Inc. to perform Premium Audits on its behalf. Lowry & Associates is responsible for carrying out the auditing process for Blitz policies.

How are insureds contacted for audit arrangements?

A Lowry auditor will reach out to the insured three times, using either email or phone, before contacting the agent. If the agent does not respond, a letter will be mailed to initiate contact regarding the audit.

What information or documentation is needed for the audit?

The required documentation depends on the premium basis for the policy. Typically, Blitz audits General Liability (GL) categories including Payroll, Sales, and Subcontracting Costs. To complete the audit, you may need to provide payroll records, gross sales or receipts, subcontractor information, copies of specific tax documents, or other data that demonstrates the scope of your business operations.

Which types of accounts are subject to audits?

Any account with auditable exposures, such as sales, payroll, or subcontracting costs, is eligible for an audit.

What is the timeline for premium audits?

Premium audits are initiated within 30 days following the expiration of policies with premiums greater than $10,000. This applies to Cannabis Operators, Contractors, and Retail & Services programs. The audit vendor aims to conduct the audit within 30 days, and it should be completed 30 to 60 days after the policy expires.

Who receives a copy of the audit?

After completion, the audit is sent from the vendor to Blitz. If necessary, Blitz may share the audit with the producer, who is responsible for forwarding the audit to the insured.

What happens if the insured does not respond to an audit request?

If the insured does not respond, the audit will be processed with a 10-15% increase in exposures for both expiring and any active policy terms.

Will additional premiums or return premiums be endorsed?

If necessary, additional premiums will be endorsed. Blitz does not return premium because of a Premium Audit.

What happens if additional classes are found during the audit?

If new classes are discovered during the audit, they will be endorsed onto the expiring policy, and, if applicable, onto the renewal policy as well.

How long does the insured have to pay an additional premium due to the audit?

The payment timeline is currently under consideration. For renewals, Agent Bill customers have the entire pay cycle to make payment, while Direct Bill customers are given 15 days.
