Inspection

Who performs the inspections?

Blitz partners with Preferred Reports to carry out inspections. Preferred Reports acts on Blitz's behalf to complete all inspection activities.

How are insureds contacted to arrange the inspection?

Preferred Reports will attempt to reach the insured by phone or email a total of three times. Additionally, the agent will be contacted twice before the inspection is deemed non-productive.

What is the process and timeline for inspections?

Inspections are ordered within 30 days after the policy’s effective date. The inspection vendor strives to perform the inspection within 45 days. Overall, the inspection should be completed between 30 and 75 days following the policy's effective date.

What happens during a typical audit?

Preferred Reports engineers conduct a facility tour as part of the audit. During the tour, the engineers assess hazardous exposures, fire safety, the condition of the building and premises, water damage, and other relevant factors.

Are physical property inspections required at all locations?

Physical property inspections are required for all locations with a Total Insured Value greater than $1 million, as well as those specifically requested by underwriting.

Inspections are also mandatory for all cannabis manufacturing sites using combustible extraction, vacant buildings, and restaurants with commercial cooking.

Does the insured receive a copy of the inspection report?

The inspection report is sent to Blitz. Blitz does not provide the entire report to the insured but will share relevant findings and necessary photos from the inspection with the insured.

What happens in the event of an incomplete inspection or non-compliance with inspection recommendations?

If an insured does not respond to an inspection request, the carrier makes two to three follow-up attempts in addition to contacting the inspection agent. If these attempts are deemed unsuccessful, the matter is referred to underwriting and a Notice of Cancellation (NOC) may be issued. If the insured completes the inspection within the NOC period, a NOC rescission will be issued.

How long does an insured have to comply with inspection recommendations?

An initial response to the recommendations must be sent back to Blitz within 10 days of receiving them. Depending on the specific recommendation, the insured may have 10, 30, or 60 days to comply.
